This publication contains monthly information on sales of new motor vehicles in each State/Territory in original, seasonally adjusted and trend estimated terms. The original data are sourced from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries. Sales data are available for passenger vehicles, other vehicles and total vehicles at the State/Territory and National levels.


FEBRUARY 2002 KEY POINTS

Trend

Total new motor vehicle sales rose for the ninth consecutive month, however, the rate of growth slowed in February 2002 to 1.6% over the previous month. Growth was weaker for new passenger vehicle sales (1.2%) and has declined over the last three months. In contrast, sales of other vehicles grew steadily at 2.4% during this three month period.

Seasonally Adjusted

Sales of new vehicles fell by 6.0% in February 2002 following a peak in January of 74,363. Sales of new passenger vehicles fell by 7.1% and other vehicles by 4.0%. Falls were recorded in all States and Territories. New vehicle sales in February 2002 were 10.9% higher than in February 2001.
